If the Deadpool movie is as smart as its marketing team, then this film is going to be a massive hit. The “Merc with a Mouth” has finally been granted his own solo adventure, and it looks pretty promising thanks to an excellent marketing campaign. Viewers of X-Men Origins: Wolverine may have blamed Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool’s relatively tame appearance in the past, but the charismatic actor seems poised to deliver a good performance this time.
Following a “romantic” TV spot from last week, Deadpool is back in action with a new banner poster for Valentine’s Day. Only it’s not really Deadpool, as no costume is worn, but rather his unmasked, normal human-looking counterpart - Wade Wilson. Accompanying him is Vanessa Carlysle, aka Copycat, who is played by Morena Baccarin. The most intriguing visual, however, is the concept of the poster itself, which looks like it belongs to a PG rom-com starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Take a look at the new Deadpool movie poster below:

Man, is this poster great or what? Obviously, fans of Deadpool will have a laugh or two and wink at the irony. But even better is imagining the look on the faces of those who have no idea who Deadpool is. “This looks cute-- wait… why is the name of the movie Deadpool??” True love never dies, but the name of the lead character is "Deadpool." Not only is it hilarious to laugh at these uninformed individuals, but it’s actually a really smart move from 20th Century Fox. In the day and age of smartphones, it’s likely that someone will google “Deadpool,” which means Fox is reaching even more potential ticket-buyers.
Deadpool will feature even more X-Men / mutant connections with a cast that includes T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Ed Skrein as Ajax.
The countdown continues. Deadpool arrives in theaters Feb. 12.
