EA and developer Ghost Games have announced Need For Speed Payback, the latest entry in the long-running Need For Speed franchise. Need For Speed Payback will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 10.
Need For Speed Payback will feature the staples of the series, like street races, car chases and big set pieces, along with a story about betrayal and revenge. However, in a move seemingly straight out of GTA V, there will be three playable main characters. It’s unknown at this time if players have the ability to attempt missions as any character, or if specific characters must be used at specific times.
In the world of Need For Speed Payback, there is an organization in the seedy underbelly of Fortune Valley known as The House. This cartel is known for controlling the area’s casinos, committing huge amounts of crime and also controlling the cops to get away with everything. The three characters you play as all have been united in a quest to get revenge on The House for reasons that have yet to be explained.
The three characters are Tyler, known for being skilled as a racer, Mac, the showman of the group, and Jess, the stone-cold wheelman. These three will team up to complete missions and events, customize cars and fix up old junkers and even do a little gambling on races.
“Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games,” said Marcus Nilsson, executive producer at Ghost Games, in a press statement. “We’re still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we’re bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience. From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today.”
While no cars have officially been announced for the main car list, EA has done a classic EA move and announced the pre-order bonus pack. Called the Platinum Car Pack, this group of cars will be available to those who pre-order any version of the game. There will also be a Deluxe version released that includes additional items like customization items, in-game discounts and more. The Platinum Car Pack includes:
Nissan 350Z 2008
Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967
Dodge Charger R/T 1969
Ford F-150 Raptor 2016
Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016
Each car will have Platinum Blue tire smoke
If you want to start playing Need For Speed Payback as soon as possible, be sure to become a member of either EA Access on Xbox One or Origin Access on PC. If you are a member of either service, you will have the ability to play a 10-hour trial of Need For Speed Payback starting Nov. 2. Those who pre-order the Deluxe version of the game will be able to play unrestricted starting three days before release, on Nov. 7.
