Spider-Man: Homecoming released for Digital HD Sept. 26, and deleted scenes confirm the existence of a character fans have wanted to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years: Miles Morales.
His presence was all but confirmed in Spider-Man: Homecoming when Donald Glover’s character, Aaron Davis aka The Prowler, mentions he has a younger nephew. The deleted scene makes this easter egg more explicit. Videos posted online were promptly taken down, so in order to watch you’ll have to make a digital purchase or wait until Oct. 17 for the DVD.
The scene takes place after Spidey webs The Prowler to his car. If you remember, Glover tells Spidey he needs to get better at “this part of the job” after the interrogation voice ordeal. Even though The Prowler is a criminal himself, he doesn’t want any trouble and ends up giving Peter info about Vulture.
“That’s what I get for helping,” the The Prowler says before calling out to others. “Excuse me, a human being needs help. I hate this dude, man.”
Afterwards, The Prowler talks on his phone; it’s clear Miles is on the other line. “I’m sorry, Miles - I’m not going to make it,” Aaron says. “Yeah, I’m just stuck.”
For whatever reason, this scene was not included in the film. Maybe because it’s more fun to leave fans wondering what Marvel / Sony plans to do with the character and if he actually does exist. After all, Glover’s character was basically included just for the Miles Morales connection. Years back, an internet campaign for Glover to play a live-action Morales went viral. By the time the film was sorted out, the actor was a bit old to pass as a high schooler… so why not Morales’ uncle Aaron Davis?
Aaron Davis plays an important role in Morales becoming Spider-Man. In the comics, Miles’ uncle ends up with a radioactive spider in his bag after breaking into Oscorp labs. But it isn't Davis who gets bitten, it’s Morales, which leads him to get his powers. Even though they are related, their relationship isn’t especially friendly. The Prowler isn’t exactly a good guy and Morales quickly realizes the truth about this uncle’s actions. Let’s just say it doesn't end well.
