Monster Hunter World: Iceborne announced that something big and legendary is set to arrive to the New World. Hunters need to gear up and prepare for what may be the most dynamic and intense hunt ever as none other than the Blazing Black Dragon Alatreon has arrived. Today we look a little deeper into this upcoming epic hunt.
To start things off, Alatreon is an Elder Dragon. Elder Dragons have been known to make use of the power of nature’s elements, but to rather extreme degrees. Kirin, for example, not only can summon lightning, but can do so with pinpoint accuracy. Tesotra, meanwhile, can dish out hellish flames with Velkhana being able to freeze the moisture in the air.
So what does this mean for Alateron? Well, this one belongs to a higher echelon even among Elder Dragons and comes with a unique ability, one that allows it to switch between elemental attributes at will. Therefore, Hunters need to be equipped with elemental resistances, probably blight resistances. It’s also important to always be on your toes and to adapt quickly.
The thing to remember is that when changing elemental powers, the power stored gets blasted in a destructive shockwave known as Escaton Judgement. Teamwork is key here and players need to weaken this new attack by going after Alatreon directly and matching its current elemental weakness.
The good news is that players are not going to face this powerful force empty-handed. Powerful gear is already being prepared and the Smithy is already gearing up to take in Alatreon materials to craft some unique weapons, likely one for each of the 14 types, along with new armor sets.
Players also get the chance to unlock a new Set Bonus known as Alateron Divinity. This Set Bonus takes into account the Hunter’s elemental resistance and this translates it to elemental damage for their weapon.
New Update and New Events
Alateron is set to arrive with Title Update 4. Originally set to be launched last May, the update is now expected to be released this Wednesday, July 8 at 8:00 PM EDT.
That’s not all as there are also two events coming. The first is the Summer Seasonal Event known as the Sizzling Spice Fest. This is going to take place from July 21 to August 6. The event is going to feature a lot of feathers and meat dishes. There are also going to be different monster-themed gear items for players to craft.
The second is a limited time Event Quest where players get to hunt a new Variant monster that has been discovered by the Guild: Frostfang Barioth. This one comes with enhanced ice-based breath attacks and can even freeze the ground while applying the Frostbind status. The quest starts on August 6 and ends on August 19.
