Video game, anime and cartoon fans were left in shock after an animator revealed why people are not able to pull their swords out and over their head in real life like their favorite characters do.

The confession came after a cosplayer shared a video of them struggling to pull their sword out of its sheath on their back. Dillon Goo, an animator and YouTuber, shared that there is actually an editing hack that allows video game characters to do it.

"As an animator, I apologize for misleading...we've been cheating this in 3D for years," Goo wrote in a post to X. He followed up the tweet with a video of an animated sword still in production. As the sword slowly moves out of its sheath, the tip of the sword comes out of the side of the sheath rather than the opening — a move impossible to do for fans in real life.

Goo's tweet has been seen millions of times, and has amassed more than 420,000 likes. Hundreds of users shared that they could not believe that the movement was not actually possible.

"No, this fact ruined my life," one user tweeted. "How deep do these lies run?" another commented. One user said, "This is gut-wrenching information actually."

"God, the amount of time I tried to unsheathe a sword myself to have the same problem like this is crazy. I thought I just had short hands," another user wrote.

Meanwhile, others had their suspicions that the move was not realistic confirmed by the animator. "This is why swords should be on your side, not on your back haha lol," one user commented. "No wonder it looked so seamless! The magic behind the scenes revealed."
