The makeout scene between Susan Williams and Oliver was a clue for a couple things moving forward in ‘Arrow’ Season 5. First, the overly long shot of Susan’s bottle of vodka suggests she could have a connection to Oliver’s past in Russia or even Prometheus. Whether Susan has ties to the Bratva, Russian government, or League of Assassins isn’t yet clear, but statements from Wendy Mericle, one of the Arrow showrunners, suggest we’ll find out very more very soon.
“Were we too obvious with that?” Mericle said when TV Line asked her about the camera's extraordinarly long pause on the bottle of Russian Vodka. “I would call that foreshadowing more than anything else. Susan is certainly on that [Oliver-in-Russia] train, for sure.”
Mericle didn’t speak on speculation that Susan Williams spiked Oliver’s drink, which fans think could explain why he saw (or hallucinated?) Laurel in the bunker. That theory, however, became harder to believe after watching the ‘Arrow’ Seaosn 5 episode 10 promo where Oliver says Laurel has met the new recruits and speaks about her like she’s physically there. All things considered, it really does seem like Laurel is actually ‘alive and well’ like Mericle said months ago.
In a Facebook Live after the episode, Stephen Amell also teased there will be a resurrection. He also warned fans his character will be cautious with this new Laurel.
"Obviously people don't just come back from the dead, so there has to be some sort of vetting process to make sure that it is Laurel because the group has seen some peculiar things," Amell said. "We delve into that when we come back in the New Year."
