‘Battlefield 1’ Guide: How To Find The Class That’s Right for You

.
. .

Battlefield is all about using the right class to do the job. No soldier can do everything by him/herself, but with the right squad make up, a team will have what it takes to win. Here you can find the class that works for you and see some tips about how best to use them.

First, if you’re unfamiliar with the game modes, check out this guide. For general tips, look here.

There are four classes in Battlefield 1, all with different strengths and weaknesses.

Assault:

Assault is what you want if you want to charge the point, go in fast and hot and rack up some bodies.

Equipped with submachine guns or shotguns, Assault is the front line of the attack. They’re also the class with the best tools for taking out vehicles. Basically, the Engineer class from previous Battlefields have been folded into Assault. If you choose Assault, you not only have the ability to take out vehicles, but a responsibility to, since you’ll be the best equipped to do so. The feeling of blowing up a tank is an amazing one and worth the risk.

Charge the points, scare the enemy, push hard. Don’t be afraid to use the bayonet charge, you’ll be surprised at how well it works.

Weaknesses:

Assault weapons are all relatively close range. You’ll have trouble dealing with snipers or other distant threats. Luckily there’s usually enough cover that you can work your way up to them and take them out if needed. If you see someone you can’t shoot, spot them for your team.

Medic:

As you might guess, Medics are all about keeping your team fighting fit. You can throw health packs, or drop healing crates and even revive dead teammates. The revive is key not only to keep soldiers at the front, but also if you revive someone, you won’t lose a ticket when you’re on attack.

The typical weapon for a Medic is a semi-automatic rifle. With better range than the Assault weapons you can clear out medium distant threats to pave the way for your Assault comrades to push forward. I’ve also found the medic guns have a very rewarding feel to them. If anyone remembers the M1 Garand from Call of Duty 2 and other games, you’ll know what I mean.

As a Medic you also owe it to yourself to stay alive. You can’t revive your team if you’re dead. Let the Assault soldiers charge in first. Help them out but if they die be there to bring them back to fight on.

Weaknesses:

Medics are the worst class at dealing with vehicles. They have a few support items that will help, but they’re far less equipped than Assault, so you’d be better off focusing on healing items.

Their weapons also take a bit of time to reload and are tougher to use in close quarters. You don’t want to be alone up against an Assault or Support in a small room.

Support:

The Support class is all about backing up the Assault and Medics. Support is fun because you’ll have a ton of options about what gear to choose and how to play.

Your weapons will be light machine guns. I really like using them because for the last ten years, automatic weapons in games have been about the controlled burst fire. Support throws this out the window. Their guns gain, not lose, accuracy the longer you fire. This encourages you to spray your full clip at once. If you kill someone, don’t stop shooting just swivel and shoot at someone else. It’s easy to understate how liberating this is after years of controlled bursts.

You will have ammunition packs and crates to restock your teammates and you also have some anti-vehicle capability. Their anti-vehicle tools, mines and mortars, are harder to use than Assault’s, but at least you won’t feel useless when a light tank is bearing down on you. The mortar can also be used to blow holes in buildings or light up well-entrenched enemies.

Keep your team restocked, your vehicles repaired, and the enemy pinned down – you’ll have a blast mashing down that fire button until the clip is empty.

Weaknesses:

Support is a strong all around class, but their weapons are generally slower to wield than Assault or Medic. It’s easy to be doing your thing only to get surprised and overwhelmed when a more nimble Assault charges at you.

Scout:

The sniper class. You know it. I know it. We’re all scared of it. The Scout is all about hanging back, finding that perfect sniper spot and picking off exposed enemies. This class can be devastating to the enemy, but it also requires high level of skill to be useful with it. You need to be smart, careful, and have great aim to make a difference.

Your tools are based around setting traps to protect your sniper’s nest and spotting enemies for your team. If you invest the time in becoming proficient in the class, you can turn the tide of battle.

Weaknesses:

Your main gun is slow to fire and difficult to use in close range. Be aware of the enemy getting close to your position. If they do, get out of there before they find you. If you do get into a close range firefight – you’re often better switching to your pistol to take out the threat.

Remember to Change As the Battle Changes:

Once you’ve gotten accustomed to all the classes, be willing to switch mid-battle. Maybe you love Assault but your entire squad has no Medics - Do the right thing and be there to heal your squad. Maybe a well-positioned tank is halting your advance - Switch to Assault and take it out, then go back to what you were playing.

The battlefield if fluid, you should be too. Good luck Soldier.
