Battlefield 1 is now official, and will be released on Oct. 18 for the Early Enlister edition and Oct. 21 for regular editions. Along with a proper announcement, EA and DICE have released a new trailer to go along with it, which can be watched below.
As we can see in the trailer, players can expect biplane dogfights, fighting on horses, trench warfare, the birth of tanks and everything else that came with World War 1. The developers liked the ideas of converging technologies, mixing the advent of bigger weapons with more traditional close-combat fighting.
Unlike the last DICE game, Star Wars Battlefront, there will be a single-player campaign in Battlefield 1. More details on the campaign will be coming over the coming months.
Multiple weapons have been confirmed, including pistols, shotguns and a range of melee weapons such as shovels, trench clubs and bayonets. Flamethrowers have also been confirmed as a usable weapon. Gas weapons and gas masks will also be coming.
Weapon customization will also be a feature of Battlefield 1. New options for customization will be coming, but DICE was reluctant to reveal too much information.
Vehicles will return back as well, with the developers teasing that some of the biggest vehicles they have ever made will be in Battlefield 1. There will also be airplanes, ships, and tanks. Horses have "neither been confirmed nor denied" as a means of transport in the game. Tanks are said to be unique in how they look and play, so learning how to operate one tank will not carry over to other machines. Entire squads will be able to fit into the full-sized tanks.
Hands-on opportunities will be coming at EA Play, and a beta is coming later in the year.
