The first batch of downloadable content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is expected to hit PS4 early next month, roughly two months after the game’s debut, but the upcoming Awakening DLC will apparently only be available on three of the five platforms where Black Ops 3 is currently available for purchase.
Last month, Activision and Treyarch unveiled Awakening, the first of four planned DLC packs for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. As we’ve come to expect, the unreleased map pack will add handful of new arenas to Black Ops 3’s default multiplayer playlists, along with a new level for Zombies level for the game’s zombie-hunting fans to explore. As previously announced, the Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC will debut on PS4 first, on Feb. 2, before making the jump to PC and Xbox One a month later. But it seems the first round of Black Ops 3 DLC is the latest addition to a growing list of features that aren’t available to those playing Black Ops 3 on PS3 and/or Xbox 360.
According to a new report from Videogamer, Activision has no plans to publish Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. And we’re not talking about timed exclusivity, either. From what we can tell, the publisher doesn’t ever plan to release the game’s first map pack for the last-gen versions of Black Ops 3. The news isn’t a complete shock, since questions around the release plans for the game’s DLC is what originally led Activision to cancel the PS3 and 360 versions of the Black Ops 3 Season Pass.
That said, the news will likely still come as a disappointment to those playing this year’s Call of Duty on an older console. The last-gen versions of Black Ops 3 already shipped without a campaign. But now we have to wonder whether those who purchased the older version will ever have anything to break up the repetition of Black Ops 3’s default map rotations.
