Puzzle games aren’t nearly as rare as they were a few years ago, thanks to the success of recent favorites like The Talos Principle and The Witness . And our latest glimpse of Blackwood Crossing suggests the genre could be around for quite some time. The new footage also has us pretty excited to see Blackwood Crossing make its PC and console debut early next year.
Here’s how developer PaperSeven Studio describes Blackwood Crossing on Steam:
“Blackwood Crossing is a story-driven first-person adventure game. A haunting tale of intrigue and mystery.”
You play as Scarlett, a teenager finding her way in the world. You wake up, disorientated, to find yourself and your younger brother, Finn, inexplicably travelling on a moving train.
But when a mysterious figure appears, it’s clear that this is no ordinary train ride. It’s the beginning of a magical voyage, steeped in life, love and loss.”
The game’s protagonists are orphans, once extremely close as a result of their terrible circumstances, who find themselves growing apart in adolescence. In many ways, the footage shown this week reminded us of Life Is Strange , a game that looks to blend the fantastical with an examination of real problems. This week’s gameplay demo also confirmed Blackwood Crossing will be set in the 1990s. So you can be sure there will be plenty of writing about all the nostalgia it invokes after Blackwood Crossing hits PC and consoles in 2017.
