Bryan Cranston will executive produce and star in a new anthology series based on the works of Philip K. Dick, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick will follow the Black Mirror model, with 10 episodes each presenting a different standalone drama based on the works of Philip K. Dick.
"This is an electric dream come true," Cranston told THR. "We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master."
Joining Cranston as executive producers is Ronald D. Moore (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Outlander), Michael Dinner (Justified), James Degus, Maril Davis, David Kanter, Matt DeRoss and the producers behind Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle , based on the Dick novel of the same name.
None of the Dick stories to be adapted have been announced, though the presence of Cranston across multiple episodes, not to mention the title, may suggest that he’ll be playing Philip K. Dick himself. Not only do Dick and Cranston have a definite resemblance, but many of Dick’s later stories and novels found the author inserting himself into the narrative.
With Cranston possibly playing the sci-fi novelist, Electric Dreams may move into Dick’s strangest material found in the last novels of his life. VALIS, based on Dick’s own supernatural gnostic experiences with a space-based laser that may also be a god, features not only Phil, but also a second, schizophrenic manifestation of the author named Horselover Fat.
No premiere date has yet been set for Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick, but it’s nice to see that the Dick renaissance will continue.
