Although not many details have dropped for this year’s iteration of Call of Duty, we can now expect its appearance during E3 later this June, as revealed by E3 itself.
In an official tweet, E3 has announced that Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward is set to make an appearance during the E3 Coliseum, a special panel that unites gamers with their favorite developers, all in one spectacular event.
The E3 Coliseum event will be a good place to discuss the next Call of Duty. It will be livestreamed for the convenience of millions of fans around the world, and will be hosted and produced by none other than Geoff Keighley, who’s much more known for The Game Awards.
Recently, Activision has teased details on the upcoming Call of Duty title, stating that it seeks to target player engagement, which dwindles sharply months after release. The new Call of Duty will also be released before the month of June comes to an end, which means that we could very well see the new Call of Duty officially debut before, during or maybe even after E3, though my guess is that it would be during the event itself in order to capitalize further on the E3 Coliseum panel.
Add this to the fact that E3 is probably the most media-covered event for gaming, and we can speculate that it is more likely that the title will be revealed in a full capacity during E3. Activision would be smart to take advantage of its presence for E3 this year, seeing as their rival first-person shooter, the Battlefield series, will most likely not make an appearance for the event. Instead, Battlefield is most likely going to be presented during Electronic Arts’ very own EA Play event, as the publisher will now skip going to E3 to promote its titles.
In any case, there are still rumors floating around that points towards the new Call of Duty title being a Modern Warfare sequel, which is arguably the series’ high point and the one that caused it to explode in popularity.
