It’s hard to go on Instagram without stumbling upon food pictures. The photo-sharing platform’s food pics come from pros, food artists, and amateur foodies alike. In fact, the hashtag “food” brings up over 180 million pictures, while the hashtag “food porn” has over 80 million posts filed away.
Now, users who love taking food pics on Instagram (or just for fun) have a new camera app called Foodie, dedicated to taking pictures of food. Available for free for iOS and Android devices around the world, the app has 24 filters based on particular foods (e.g. “meats,” “sushi,” “cakes,” etc) that promise to make dishes look better.
One of the most popular angles for taking food pics is the aerial shot, with the camera hovering horizontally above the dish. Perfecting your aim can be a challenge when taking this style of photo, but the Foodie app boasts a “best angle” feature that lets the user know when they are at the right angle using on-screen color.
Other features available on the app include adjustable brightness and a flashlight for darker locations. There is also an auto blurring feature, allowing users to blur the background of an image to give the effect of SLR photography.
The specialized camera app allows for sharing on social networks and the developer, Line Corporation, intends to expand and build upon its existing features in the future.
“Going forward, Foodie will continue to develop food-specific features, such as filters and effects, that allow users to have more enjoyable and enriching communication experiences through food photos,” says the company in a press statement.
