Carrie Fisher has died at 60 years old. Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movie franchise, passed away at UCLA Medical Center on Dec. 27. Fisher suffered a heart attack on Dec. 23 during a return flight from London to LAX. She was said to be in stable condition.
Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, and bulldog Gary were by her side. Fisher’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, and brother, Todd Fisher, were reportedly at the hospital. Lourd released the following statement to People magazine about her mother’s passing:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
May the force be with you, Carrie. You were more than just a Princess. You were a symbol to young girls everywhere that broke cultural norms. Leia was strong. Leia knew how to fight. Leia was smart. Leia had a sharp tongue and wit. Leia put Han Solo in his place every single time. Leia was a leader. Leia needed no one to save her.
Fisher was even bigger than her Star Wars on-screen persona. Fisher was just as smart, talented and witty in real life. She was unapologetically candid, even writing a book revealing all her truths in The Princess Diarist .
Damn, 2016 has truly been a dumpster fire of a year. Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Prince...So many legends gone.
