ChinaJoy 2019 begins today, and with it comes a whole host of titles from China-based developers as the country’s biggest gaming expo runs the whole weekend. There are tons of games that are featured, so be sure to stick around for our coverage of everything announced at this event, especially seeing as China is starting to gain footing in video game development – and that means more great games for everyone.
Modern gaming may have a lot of flaws, but one thing’s for certain – the Metroidvania genre is at its finest right now. With a ton of great releases set for this year and beyond, save room for one more with developer TIGames’ entry for the PlayStation China Hero Project. Titled F.I.S.T., this dieselpunk Metroidvania is probably the most promising title I’ve seen so far announced at ChinaJoy, and expect the showcase to continue as the game will be fully playable for ChinaJoy 2019 attendees from August 2 to August 5. Check out a trailer for F.I.S.T. below.
With crisp animations, breathtaking environments and incredibly sleek gameplay, F.I.S.T. just became my most anticipated Metroidvania game. It looks very gritty as well, and the world feels very realized and alive, despite the obviously oppressive atmosphere. The game is the second title from TIGames, coming after their development of Ancient Amuletor VR, released for the PlayStation VR back in 2017.
F.I.S.T., according to its press release, is a working title for this Metroidvania set in a vivid dieselpunk world. You play as an anthropomorphic and fearsome looking rabbit who wields a big mech-arm, which can either be a heavy knuckle that packs quite the punch, or a deadly drill that can quite literally bore holes into enemies. Everything about this game looks amazing, and if it can be backed with technical performance that translates to smooth gameplay, then I have no problems saying that this is a Metroidvania any fan of the genre should look out for.
F.I.S.T. is currently in development for both the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam (according to the game’s official website). A release date has yet to be announced.
ChinaJoy 2019 will run from August 2 to August 5. Expect more coverage from us as soon as news is revealed.
