The best SimCity experience that isn’t a real SimCity game is finally coming to PS4. Cities: Skylines is gearing up for the jump to Sony’s console this August.
In a post on the PlayStation blog, Cities: Skylines producer Niklas Lundström confirmed the release, and also mentioned the game will include the After Dark DLC as a free addition.
“At Paradox, strategy and creativity are the core of what we do, and judging from the amount of requests we’ve had to release Cities: Skylines on the PS4, they’re passions shared by this community as well,” Lundström said. “We’ve been hard at work making sure the roads are smooth and the turbines are tuned, so that everything is ready when you build your first city block — but rest assured, the game is looking and playing great on a controller. When you pull back and watch the sun rise over the bustling city you’ve built from the ground up, it’s going to look truly inspiring on the big screen.”
Cities: Skylines has been available on PC since March 2015, and an Xbox One port was released this past April. The Xbox One edition is priced at $39.99, so expect something similar for the PS4.
The blog post doesn’t mention a release date, instead dancing around the subject by saying “when this game arrives later this year” and “we’ll have more info soon on the launch.” This contradicts what is found on Wikipedia and the official Twitter account for Cities: Skylines, which lists the PS4 version with a release date of Aug. 15.
Another thing not mentioned in the blog is whether the other DLC outside of After Dark will be available at launch. Cities: Skylines has a number of DLC available, including Mass Transit, Snowfall and Natural Disasters. It seems these DLC packs aren’t available on Xbox One yet, so they likely will not be available on PS4 either.
