Launch information for the first expansion for Darkest Dungeon has finally been published by Red Hook Studios. We’re still several weeks away from seeing the DLC, but we finally know the exact date Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court will make its Steam debut. And we have a rough idea of when it will head to the PlayStation Network too.
According to Red Hook Studios, The Crimson Court will make its long-awaited debut on June 19, the week after this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo shuts down Los Angeles and gives us dozens of new games to look forward to. The vampire-themed Darkest Dungeon expansion heads to PC first and will be available from all the digital retailers you’d expect, including GoG, Humble, Steam and Twitch. And pricing is pretty modest. The studio says fans can expect to pay $9.99 when The Crimson Court debuts next month. And once the expansion is out, Red Hook says says it will spend a few weeks responding to launch complaints and cranking out the first round of hotfixes. Once everything seems to be stable for most of the community, the studio will turn its attention to the PlayStation 4 release.
That buffer period makes quite a bit of sense when you consider everything Red Hook has planned for the first Darkest Dungeon DLC. The Crimson Court introduces several new features, including prestige buildings and a new hero class, capable of throwing off the balance of a game that’s already brutally difficult. It’s probably best if the studio isn’t trying to respond to bugs and balance issues from the entire community. Especially when they’re confident that console owners will only need to wait a few extra weeks for a more stable experience.
Here’s everything Red Hook says we can expect to see in The Crimson Court:
A new hero class. “Awash in blood and delusion, they bear the burden of a thousand lifetimes.”
A new wandering boss: The Fanatic
A new dungeon region: The Courtyard
A full faction of new deadly foes
4 new, unique Courtyard Bosses with some of the most complex and devious mechanics yet.
Massive, sprawling maps with locked doors, prisoner rooms, and progress saves
Districts: New prestige buildings that offer permanent, estate-wide bonuses
Lore-driven trinket sets for all heroes – with set bonuses!
The good news is that Red Hook says PlayStation 4 owners shouldn’t have to wait more than four to six weeks to get their hands on Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court. The studio isn’t willing to commit to a specific release date yet; however, Red Hook expects The Crimson Court to be ready for PSN by the end of July. The studio also says we can expect to learn more about the upcoming expansion in the weeks ahead. There will also be new screenshots of The Crimson Court and “a comprehensive look” of the next class being added to Darkest Dungeon .
Darkest Dungeon is currently available on PC and PS4.
