Underdog Studios have come up with a twist on the classic Kickstarter game pitch. These guys want to create a game where game developers save the “World of Gaming” in a 2D puzzle-platformer, and it’s a pretty awesome.
The indie studio launched its Kickstarter campaign to create Dawn of the Devs on Sept. 7 and have collected $10,000 out of their $65,000 goal. According to Underdog Studios’ Kickstarter page, the game makers wants to create the game as a “a light hearted parody with lots of humour and irony” of how the game industry treats the creatives behind their favorite titles.
“We are making this game as a love letter to all those game developers who have given us so many unforgettable moments with their games, from the bottom of our hearts and with the uttermost respect for their figures and background,” Underdog Studios wrote on its Kickstarter page for Dawn of the Devs . “Many of them have inspired us to get into the game industry; some others have enlightened us to improve every day, while some others are a role model for many game developers. We really wanted to make homage to all these minds behind unique worlds, characters and universes that we have enjoyed in so many unforgettable experiences.”
Amongst the developer parodies in Dawn of the Devs is a character named Hiro Komiya, who is based off of the former Konami dev Hideo Kojima. Konami and Kojima had a public fallout in 2015 after news of the Silent Hills cancellation was confirmed. Konami and Kojima abruptly cut ties, which left fans of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid franchise extremely upset. Kojima shied away from the Konami drama, and eventually created Kojima Productions to develop his own titles.
Kojima has partnered with Sony to release Death Stranding starring The Walking Dead ’s Norman Reedus.
Still, Underdog Studios’ idea for Dawn of the Devs is pretty awesome. Having Hiro hide in a cardboard box a la Solid Snake is genius. Check out the Kickstarter for Dawn of the Devs here.
