Despite popular belief, the Dead Island franchise isn’t nearly as dead as it seemed, following the cancellation of Dead Island: Epidemic and Deep Silver’s ousting of the original Dead Island 2 development team. We still don’t have an update on the sequel to Dead Island , which is now in development at Sumo Digital, but a new interview with the head of Koch Media (Deep Silver’s parent company) has revealed the existence of an upcoming Dead Island mobile game.

The interview was published in MCV #900, a UK publication focused on the games industry, and spotted by VideoGamer. According to MCV , Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz reconfirmed his company’s commitment to the franchise via its publishing arm (Deep Silver), reminding fans that Dead Island 2 remains in very good hands at Sumo Digital. And it was during this discussion that Kundratitz decided to unceremoniously reveal the existence of another Dead Island project.

“I can tell you we are also working on a mobile game under the IP, which we will have more to say about in a little while,” Kundratitz said. “The franchise has our full attention."

We don’t have a name for the project, targeted platforms or any idea of when the Dead Island mobile game will be listed in the App Store and/or Google Play. There’s no word on whether the game will be inspired by the first Dead Island , its upcoming sequel or an entirely new story set in the same universe. We don’t even know what genre the game will represent. That said, ongoing development of two new Dead Island games does suggest that Koch Media and Deep Silver still have long-term plans for the struggling zombie survival series. We’ll just have to wait and see if either (or both) turn out to be any good.
