The House of Lies Season 5 premiere is a month away, and Showtime has released another behind-the-scenes look that suggests Marty Kaan is killing it this season. As Don Cheadle puts it, “This season seems like it’s blue skies for Marty.” The clip reveals Kaan & Associates have taken over more than a couple smaller firms, “I will have one of the richest management consultancies on the planet.” However, knowing Marty, there is always a catch and that could just be his ego talking.
At the end of last season, Marty and Jeannie had their baby, Phoebe. Jeannie now works as a chief financial officer at a pharmaceutical company. It’s unclear whether Jeannie will come back to Kaan & Associates, but in the clip she’s running around with her old ‘pod,’ Doug, Clyde, and Marty. As the Season 5 trailer reveals, longtime foe, Harrison ‘Skip’ Galweather, CEO of Galweather & Stearn, wants to buy Kaan & Associates for a whopping 7 times the firm’s revenue. “I want to buy you, Marty,” Skip tells Marty. ”It’s been awhile since your people could buy my people,” Marty smartly responds.
Ben Schwartz, who plays Clyde, said he believes Season 5 is the funniest so far. With Keegan-Michael Key and Wanda Sykes guest starring, it would seem there are plenty of laughs in store. The clip suggests Marty and Jeannie’s daughter, Phoebe, may be the butt of a lot of jokes. “I’m thinking of adopting a black baby too, where’s yours from?” a neighbor asks Jeannie. “My vagine,” Jeannie says in return.
Clyde’s father died at the end of last season and he was pretty torn up about it. Marty’s son, Roscoe, was getting into some serious trouble at school. Meanwhile, Kaan & Associates recovered from a huge scandal where Jeannie turned Marty into the FBI. The Season 5 trailer sees Jeannie being accused of sexual harassment. Now that Kaan & Associates is finally doing well, the new season may focus more on individual character storylines and crazy team adventures. The House of Lies Twitter account confirmed the pack will head to Havana Cuba and probably get into some drunken, hysterical, shenanigans while they visit.
The past few seasons have focused on Kaan & Associates’s rise to the top, as well as the tumultuous relationship between Marty and Jeannie. Will the two get back together now that they have a kid? Now that Kaan & Associates is doing well, can the ‘pod’ stay on top of the game? Find out April 10 at 9:00 p.m. on Showtime.
