We've known for quite some time that North America doesn't have many strong Dota 2 teams. In previous seasons, it's been the same teams that have taken the top spot. Tour 1 for the 2023 DPC is no different. After two weeks of competition, the top spot is being shared by Shopify Rebellion and TSM, with both teams having a record of five wins and zero losses.
The Rebellion is Here
Shopify Rebellion is not new to esports. However, this is the organization's first foray in the world of Dota 2. Fortunately, they have a good roster composed of former members of Evil Geniuses. For those who can remember, EG made the decision to release the entire roster and transfer to South America.
That didn't deter the former roster which reformed and later became part of Shopify Rebellion, and it looks like a wise decision. The team has so far been sweeping their opponents to get a 5-0 record. They have two matches left and need to continue the strong performance to secure a spot at Lima Major. After all, North America is only allotted two spots.
A Strong Showing
After a poor performance at The International 2022, TSM underwent changes and the choices made have been good so far. The new roster is composed of:
- Enzo "Timado" Gianoli
- Jonathan "Bryle" De Guia
- Gainullin "kasane" Ilyas
- Matthew "Ari" Walker
- Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon
Much like Shopify, they've been defeating teams they face. The team also has two matches left and need one more win to secure a spot at Lima Major. What's going to be interesting is that their last match is against Shopify.
The Standings
While there are still other teams that have a chance, some must fight to avoid being relegated to Division II. So far, the teams in danger are ALPHA and B8. The current standings are:
- Shopify Rebellion: 5-0
- TSM: 5-0
- 5RATFORCESTAFF: 3-3
- nouns: 3-1
- Wildcard Gaming: 3-2
- Thiuth Gaming: 1-5
- ALPHA: 0-5
- B8: 0-4
