Dragon Ball FighterZ 1.38 Balance Patch Divides Fans with Changes to Characters

Dragon Ball FighterZ's latest 1.38 balance patch has divided fans over some of the changes that have been made to other characters. Steam, Arc System Works, Bandai Namco

Dragon Ball FighterZ just released its latest balance patch, version 1.38, and publisher Bandai Namco divided fans after releasing the official patch notes for all of the changes to the game.

It was announced back in June earlier this year that the developers of the game, Arc System Works, had another balance patch in the works. It was originally scheduled to be released sometime after Evo 2024.

Dragon Ball FighterZ's 1.38 Balance Patch

The latest balance patch implemented changes for every single character in Dragon Ball FighterZ and some fans are not happy with them.

Generally speaking, all characters in the game are now capable of chaining special moves into different special moves while Sparking Blast is active.

On top of this, the new update makes characters such as Super Saiyan Vegeta have alternate variations of some of their special moves. While these are functionally the same, they are performed with players making different inputs, according to EventHubs.

For all intents and purposes, the character's Ki Blast Rush special now counts as two separate moves following the latest balance patch.

What this means is that Super Saiyan Vegeta can effectively chain a series of projectiles into another barrage if he has Sparking Blast active.

Because of this, some fans have noted that the changes made to Dragon Ball FighterZ in the 1.38 balance patch reminded them of Street Fighter 2: Rainbow Edition.

This was an official version of Street Fighter 2 that was developed by hackers that made every single character absolutely ridiculous.

The latest version of the game was immediately released for multiple platforms other than the Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, Bandai Namco reassured players on the handheld console that the update will be available to them very soon, said GoNintendo.

A Lot of Changes

Some noticeable changes were included in the balance patch for some characters, including a general system mechanic regarding anti-air attacks.

Dragon Ball FighterZ 1.38 makes some invincible attacks that are immune to anti-air attacks except crouching heavy attacks being susceptible to them.

Android 21 (Lab Coat), who was widely regarded as one of the best characters in the game for quite some time, also got a lot of changes in the latest balance patch. First of all, the damage scaling for her Savory Slicer and Vertical Savory Slicer attacks has been adjusted.

Furthermore, the character's Total Detonation Ball and Total Evasion have had their invincibility frames starting much faster compared to before, according to Bandai Namco's official patch notes.
