Square Enix has finally given us a timeline for Dragon Quest Builders’ Western debut, via a guest post on the PlayStation Blog, and the publisher also confirmed its upcoming sandbox game will include a bit of bonus content for anyone who pre-orders Dragon Quest Builders.
Just in case you aren’t familiar, Dragon Quest Builders is an upcoming sandbox game set in an alternate timeline following the events of the original Dragon Quest . In the new timeline, the first game ended with Dragonlord successfully negotiating a deal to split control of the world with Dragon Quest’s protagonist. Of course, being an evil ruler, Dragonlord quickly betrayed the hero, clearing the way for monsters to overrun the planet.
Fast-forward a few decades and Alefgard isn’t exactly the most hospitable place to live. Monsters have destroyed countless homes, gathering places and other structures mankind relies on. To make matters worse, mankind has apparently forgotten how to build things. As the new hero, it’s your job to rebuild Alefgard and defeat the Dragonlord.
Like many sandbox games, Dragon Quest Builders will include combat but it won’t be the focus. Players will be tasked with rebuilding towns and villages throughout Alefgard, and recovering the various resources needed to do so, ultimately fulfilling their destiny as the Legendary Builder. Or, if all that sounds a bit overwhelming, you can always dive into Terra Incognita -- the Dragon Quest Builders equivalent of Creative Mode -- to enjoy the game’s building mechanics stress-free. Fans who pre-order the game will actually receive three exclusive recipes, Gold Blocks, Slimy Blocks and Springtide Sprinkles, for use in Terra Incognita.
