The delay of Dream Daddy: A Daddy Dating Simulator is disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, it has nothing to do with impatience as the messy “launch” hasn’t changed fans’ desire to play the game. It has to do with the developers pushing the game while knowing it was an unfinished product.
Vernon Shaw, co-creator of Dream Daddy , took to Twitter to explain what happened on launch day, which was supposed to be July 13. Basically, Shaw’s team thought they could fix some bigs with the game seven hours before it was supposed to unlock. It wasn’t until the team worked tirelessly on fixing the issues that they realized there was no way they’d be able to complete the game by the deadline.
We're so sorry, we weren't able to get the game out tonight. Here's a note from @VernonShaw explaining in detail. pic.twitter.com/w13fw6DRVO

That was a hard fucking message to send.

I care about this game so much. I don't want to let you guys down, but it feels like I did that today.

Regarding the lack of communication: we were nose-down on this game trying to get it finished in time - which up until a few hour ago -

-we were confident we could do. Unexpected things happen in game dev and it simply wasn't ready to go out.

We talked for a long time about what we could do and how we should say it. I didn't want to come out with a statement that wasn't true.

Game Grumps, the developers behind Dream Daddy , learned a valuable lesson here regarding game launches: you can’t let your ambitions be your downfall. In hindsight, they probably were better off pushing back the release date than letting down fans who were eagerly waiting for the game to unlock. After all, no one wants to play a broken game. The original launch time was supposed to be 12 p.m. EDT, but was pushed to 7 p.m. EDT, according to Steam. It appeared the launch was then pushed to 10 p.m. EST. When 10 p.m. rolled around and the game still wasn’t unlocked, it was clear the game wasn’t going to be released that day.
But fans saw the developers stream Dream Daddy on launch day. The Dream Daddy team promoted the game on IGN as well. Granted, these were likely previous commitments they were locked into, but the team knew they still had things to work on. Which led to frustration amongst those who were looking forward to this launch.
Adding onto this.

Now, does this mean those who are disappointed show show up to the Game Grumps dev studio with pitchforks ready for a mutiny? No, not at all. This is what happens when you likely have a team of less than 15 people working on a big project. There’s no way you can get things done on time. But it seems like they were stuck on meeting the July 13 release date, so they couldn’t admit they overreached. No one knew about this game until June; fans are more than understanding when it comes to indie game releases. Delaying a game doesn’t take away from its hype.
Its admirable to be able to own up to these things and be honest with people.Take all the time you need,it's your baby and we all understand

The game’s delay is a let down to Shaw, his team and the fans who kept refreshing the Steam page all day to see when Dream Daddy would unlock. But shit happens. If you’re upset at Dream Daddy disappointing you, it’s ok. The Game Grumps set themselves up for that, and they know it. However, don’t be hard on them. Know that this is an indie studio working on a passion project. Their eagerness to get the game out is admirable, but we hope they learn it’s better to communicate a delay than to commit to a release date only to cancel the day of.
We’ll be waiting patiently for our daddies. Just know that right now, you guys are the dates that stood us up at the bar, so we’re going to play the field. ;-)
Dream Daddy: A Daddy Dating Simulator will be out whenever the developers complete the game and we’re perfectly fine with it.
