Nordic Games and Piranha Bytes, the brains behind the Gothic series, have revealed more details about the “science fantasy” setting behind their upcoming RPG ELEX. Check out the plot summary below:
“Advanced in technology, civilized and with a population of billions, Magalan was a planet looking to the future. Then the meteor hit.
“Those who survived are now trapped in a battle to survive, a struggle to decide the fate of a planet. At the center of this fight is the element, “Elex.” A precious, limited resource that arrived with the meteor, Elex can power machines, open the door to magic, or re-sculpt life into new, different forms.
“But which of these choices should be the future of Magalan? Can technology, or magic save this world? Or will this new power destroy all those left alive amongst the ruins?”
ELEX ’s various factions differ in their opinions on the use of Elex . The Albs consider Elex ingestion a core element of their cult, while the Clerics ban its consumption and instead use it to make high-tech weapons. The Berserkers make Elex into mana and craft magical weapons, and the Bandits just steal whatever they can get their hands on.
“We’ve been thinking about the setting for ELEX for almost 10 years, and we finally have the chance to implement our ideas. The mix of sci-fi and fantasy offers an incredible number of opportunities and cool contrasts that we can play around with,” said Björn Pankratz, game director at Piranha Bytes, in a press statement.
The game features:
Sci-Fi Meets Fantasy: A post-apocalyptic universe that seamlessly blends science-fiction and fantasy elements.
Reason vs. Emotion: The player himself decides which way to go; there’s no right or wrong.
100% Authentic: The game AI takes decisions that make the game action and events perfectly logical.
Epic Combat System: The complex combat system and total control over the characters enable you to “read” your enemies.
Jetpack Frenzy: Jetpack makes vertical exploration so much easier and offers a whole new dimension of fresh opportunities.
RPG True to its Name: The player’s decisions influence the course of the entire game.
ELEX is scheduled for a Q1 2017 release date. Will you be willing to give ELEX a try?
