Two years after PC gamers got their hands on Elite Dangerous, and another twelve months after the popular space sim hit Xbox Live, Frontier Developments is finally preparing to release Elite Dangerous (and its post-launch DLC) on the PlayStation 4.
An accompanying press release, featuring a statement from Frontier CEO David Braben, confirms Elite Dangerous: Horizons will also make the jump to PlayStation 4. There’s no word on an exact launch date yet, just a open-ended “Q2 2017” launch window, but the news should still be welcomed by anyone wanting to see more of these sorts of simulation experiences on PS4. The studio says there will several PS4-exclusive features too.
We don’t have details on the full suite of changes yet -- so don’t get worked up, ED fans, because it could just be “features” like Party Chat support -- but Frontier already confirmed Elite Dangerous players will be able to browse the Galaxy Map using the touchpad on the DualShock 4. The first two expansions from Elite Dangerous: Horizons, Engineers and Planetary Landings, will also be available at launch. And the studio says any other Elite Dangerous content released on PC or Xbox One will also appear on Sony’s latest console.
“We’re thrilled to bring Elite Dangerous to PlayStation 4,’ said Braben. “Elite Dangerous is unlike any other space game...a true-to-life galaxy including our own entire night sky, real physics, unique ship handling characteristics and a player-driven narrative that’s really heating up.”
