The Flame in the Flood , a delightful indie survival roguelite game that took the #1 spot on my 2016 Games of the Year list, will release on PlayStation 4 on Jan. 17.
In a press release, publisher Curve Digital and studio Molasses Flood stated:
“Launching as The Flame in the Flood: Complete Edition from The Molasses Flood and Curve Digital, this exclusive PlayStation 4 edition contains a brand new Directors’ Commentary – which offers incredible insight into the design and development – a wonderful dynamic theme, two new system avatars, plus a host of gameplay tweaks designed to offer the most complete The Flame in the Flood experience possible.
“The Flame in the Flood is a voyage of the unknown through a visually beautiful, yet impossibly harsh wilderness. Taking place in post-societal America, players must traverse through procedurally-generated landscape, foraging for supplies, crafting survival tools and evading predators. It’s a hostile environment, with every fresh discovery providing players with reward or taking them a step closer to death.”
In our review, we praised the game’s ambience, soundtrack and evocative world. “The art style is as evocative as the music, conveying Scout’s pain as she accumulates injuries and the menace of wildlife like hogs and bears. Like most roguelike survivals, you must manage your inventory, scrounge for supplies and craft items to survive, but The Flame in the Flood ’s vision and feeling takes it to another level,” we wrote.
“Curve Digital has been monumental in bringing The Flame in the Flood to PlayStation 4 and we believe the Complete Edition is a game every PlayStation fan will want,” stated Forrest Dowling, president and lead designer of Molasses Flood. “Not only will players get to experience the award-winning gameplay, art and story of the original, but the additional content and gameplay tweaks very much make this the definitive version.”
The game will cost $14.99 on PlayStation 4. The Xbox One and PC versions will be the same cost once the PS4 version releases.
