Savitar, the first man ever granted speed, is the main villain this season of The Flash Season 3. Like every year, it’s going to be a while before his identity is revealed. So here’s a roundup of all the clues we have about who Savitar could be.
“You are the past, whereas I am the future, Flash.”
If we take those words literally, Savitar identity could already have been revealed. This statement is one of the strongest pieces of evidence backing one of the most popular theories, that Savitar is actually a future version of Barry Allen, thus Future Flash.

Savitar’s origins are different
It’s unclear why Savitar needs the Philosopher’s stone. In the comics, he gained speed from after his plane was struck by lightning. To know more about what Savitar is capable of and how to defeat him, Barry must figure out the origin of his power. Is he actually a speed god? Or, is he a personification of the Philosopher's stone, using it to make him run even faster?
Costume Change
Savitar’s costume actually looks more similar to Future Flash in the comics--the blue lightning streaks weaved through metal and a larger face mask.
“I know your strengths. I know your weaknesses. I know you better than you know yourselves.”
Savitar’s prophecy about who will die, who is a traitor, and who will suffer something far worse than death was freaky to say the least. We have no idea how Savitar knows so much about Barry...well unless he really is Future Barry, that would make sense. If he’s actually a speed god, it’s possible the speed force grants him knowledge to what’s happening across the multiverse.

In Barry’s message from 2056 he said: “Don't trust anything or anyone, not even me.”
It seems like the writers are trying to lead us to believe Barry is Savitar. But regardless if he is or not, Barry is trying to warn the team that he’s going to make some questionable decisions. Maybe 2056 is the year he traps Savitar in the speed force and the "war" he describes is against Savitar not the Dominators.
If Savitar is the Future Flash, the war Barry is describing would be against himself, against time. Right now, it’s easy to believe the Future Flash theory because Barry clearly hasn’t learned his lesson. He is his own worst enemy---Savitar.
Savitar Kills Iris
This is probably the strongest piece of evidence against the Future Flash theory. If Savitar really is future Barry Allen, why would he kill the woman he loves?
Barry Travels To Future
Barry is going to travel six months in the future in Season 3 episode 10 to try and prevent Iris’ death. It’s possible his plan to take down Savitar with Kid Flash and Vibe fail and cause even more time aberrations. That mistake could result in Barry traveling even farther into the future to see the aftermath of what he's done. That could be the moment when Barry sends the message to Rip Hunter form 2056.
Flashpoint
Back in the summer, showrunner Aaron Helbing said Flashpoint may have a bit to do with why Savitar is here. If that’s the case, we have yet to see how exactly the two are connected beyond Dr. Alchemy wanting to return powers to everyone that had them in Flashpoint. Is it possible something in the Flashpoint timeline trapped Savitar in the speed force?
“I need your help for the preparing of my return.”
Savitar has a plan that seems bigger than just eliminating Barry. The fact he plans to "return" suggests Savitar is more than just a pure vessel of the speed force or Philosopher’s stone. He is a man. In fact, we’ve seen the back of him earlier in the season.
