Developers Michael Paixao and Joel Jonsson have just recently announced the birth of Bad Yolk Games, a video game developing studio based in Sweden. Paixao and Jonsson were former developers from MachineGames, best known for creating the modern installments for the Wolfenstein video game franchise in partnership with Bethesda Softworks.
Michael Paixao is the CEO of Bad Yolk Games, boasting experience in the video game industry spanning 12 years. Since starting his career in Sweden in 2011, he has worked with Ubisoft Massive in Malmö then later moving on up to MachineGames in Uppsala. This is where he worked on games like The Division, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Old Blood, New Colossus and Doom. It was his experience during this time that led him to establish Bad Yolk Games.
Joel Jonnson holds the title of Creative Director for the newfound studio, working alongside Paixao on the aforementioned Wolfenstein titles and Doom.
Bad Yolk Games currently has a site, where visitors are greeted by a brief introduction of the studio’s background:
“We are a newly founded studio with a twist!
Bad Yolk Games is a video game studio in Uppsala, Sweden that began in 2017 with a core start-up team of five members – with a combined 50+ years of development experience with over 10 AAA titles shipped – and now has a core team of 10 former AAA senior developers – with a combined 90+ years of experience – and over 14 AAA titles shipped. The studio has a proven track record of teamwork, and puts a great deal of emphasis on providing a healthy and happy work environment for its team.”
Some of the AAA titles mentioned include Chronicles of Riddick, EVE Online, Gears of War, The Division, and The Darkness. The talent is obviously present in the newly hatched studio, with talks already of their first IP in the works. Paixao and Jonnson created Bad Yolk in the wake of a legal battle with Zenimax Media and MachineGames, that they ultimately won and changed the landscape of labour laws in Sweden.
