The first trailer for Frostpunk, a new steampunk survival game from This War Of Mine developer 11 Bit Studios, is now available for your viewing pleasure. Unfortunately, details on the studio’s next project, which abandons the frontline of a fictitious civil war to examine life on a frozen planet, are still scarce at this time.

In a press release, 11 Bit Studios says its next game takes place in a “frozen world, where people developed steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold.” We don’t know why the planet is blanketed in snow and ice, nor is it clear whether or not we’ll find out while playing Frostpunk. The only thing that is clear is the goal: survival. Reaching the end won’t just be a matter of properly managing hunger, thirst and fatigue meters, either.

11 Bit Studios says Frostpunk should feel familiar to anyone who spent time with This War Of Mine. There are some big differences, like the choice of setting, but the studio says its previous and current projects will have plenty in common. Like its predecessor, Frostpunk will dwell on the emotional weight and impact of each situation, exploring the interpersonal relationships of various survivors and asking the player to provide solutions to situations that won’t always have a happy ending.

Sadly, we’ll have to wait an unspecified amount of time for more information on Frostpunk. 11 Bit Studios says it’s currently working on a video series, along with a physical publication of some kind, to better familiarize players with the world and characters of Frostpunk. But there’s no word on when we’ll hear more about the studio’s next game.

For an early look at Frostpunk, take a minute to watch the first teaser trailer from 11 Bit Studios. Then head down to the comments section and let us know whether or not you’re interested in the setting of the team’s next “emotion-driven” game.

Frostpunk is in development for yet-to-be-announced platforms.
