Another beloved franchise will have its shot at live-action movie glory (or infamy): Fullmetal Alchemist, the tale of adored and definitely not short alchemist Edward Elric, will release in Japan sometime next summer.
Via LiveDoorNews / Tokyo Otaku Mode , the role of Edward Elric goes to singer and actor Yamada Ryosuke of idol group Hey!Say!JUMP, who starred as Nagisa in the live-action adaptation of Assassination Classroom as well. The director is Fumihiko Sori, who directed the live-action movie adaptations of Ping Pong and Ashita no Joe . According to Crunchyroll , the film is expected to heavily utilize CG for elements such as Alphonse Eric’s armor.
Serialized from 2001 to 2010, the manga by Hiromu Arakawa was adapted into two anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood . The manga also had two animated movie adaptations and is published by VIZ Media in North America.
The Fullmetal Alchemist live action movie is expected to release in Summer 2017 in Japan. Other live-action anime movies, such as the Death Note movies and the Attack on Titan movies, have had mixed receptions. Hollywood, always on board for a remake, has plans for Ghost in the Shell and Death Note remakes of their own.
Will the Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie buck the trend of disappointing anime adaptations? Feel free to discuss in the comments section below.
