Well, well, look who’s leaking now: Even HBO can’t resist the urge to leak Game of Thrones. As reported by The Verge, the newest episode of Game of Thrones season 6—the fifth episode, “The Door”—popped up on HBO Nordic last night, and the Internet quickly made hay while the sun was shining. The episode, which airs tonight, has now made the standard Internet rounds. But don’t worry—you’ll get no spoilers from us.
Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 5 “The Door” Leaks Online
Somebody at HBO Nordic is going to get into trouble—the site, which is the Scandinavian equivalent of HBO, accidentally pulled the trigger on “The Door” early. Did they get confused about time zones or something? Regardless, the new episode wasn’t up for all that long before HBO got wise and pulled it down, but the damage was done: The episode was immediately seized by sneaky internet ne’er-do-wells, who have spread it around on the places where such things circulate.
It’s basically exactly what happened with the screener copies of Game of Thrones season 5: HBO had sent out four episodes in its press screener, and somebody obscured the identifying details on their copy and leaked them. Everybody who wanted to got to see the episodes weeks before most of them aired. But the source was originally HBO. Same deal here—it’s the pristine, real-deal, ready-to-air episode.
Of course, “The Door” is airing tonight anyway, so what’s the rush? This only really benefits the people who pirate Game of Thrones anyway. For the rest of us, we can just happily watch the show at 9pm when it pops up on HBO Go and HBO Now. No big deal. A few extra hours of spoilers isn’t that exciting anymore. Just wait, instead of hurriedly downloading the thing and frantically watching it all this afternoon. That sounds a lot less fun than following your normal Game of Thrones routine, whatever it may be.
“The Door” airs tonight on HBO, and the quality will be better than the leak. But it’s out there now, so be wary on the Internet, for spoilers be lurking.
