Ser Davos has had enough of Melisandre and the Lord of Light, R'hllor. The Game of Thrones Season 6 finale trailer teased an angry Davos yelling at Melisandre to confess her crimes to Jon Snow. For those who need a refresher, Melisandre convinced Stannis Baratheon he needed to burn Shireen to win the battle against the Boltons.
Needless to say, Shireen’s death did not guarantee a victory for Stannis, as Brienne of Tarth gladly shoved a sword through him. When Melisandre went back to The Wall, she greeted Davos by shaking her head, signifying Stannis had lost the battle. Ser Davos never asked Melisandre what happened, but he likely knew something went sour just before the battle. It wasn’t until Davos found the toy stag he made for Shireen that he realized she had been burned alive.
Shireen’s death was brutal and has gone unpunished. Melisandre has done a lot of morally questionable things in the name of R'hllor. To make things worse, she’s admitted to misinterpreting the Lord of Light’s visions, so her credibility will be called into question. Jon Snow isn’t a fan of Melisandre for bringing him back from the dead. Jon “ordered” Melisandre to not bring him back if he died while fighting in the Battle of the Bastards.
However, it’s unclear if Jon will have Melisandre killed. If anyone is killing Melisandre, it will probably be an angry Ser Davos, but don’t count the red priestess out just yet. There must be a reason why she’s still around, and it might have something to do with Bran. What if Bran taps into his powers, finds out what R+L=J means and needs to get the message out to Jon? Bran might fail to contact Jon, so tries to get Melisandre’s attention through the visions in the fire? What if the Three Eyed Raven that trained Bran was actually the one giving Melisandre the visions in the first place? Who knows.
Still, Melisandre isn’t a vital character to the North’s storyline, at least from what we’ve seen so far. She got Stannis to The Wall and brought back Jon Snow, so what is there left for her to do? She could join up with Beric Dondarrion and Thoros Of Myr if she’s kicked out of Winterfell, but what will she do then? Try to spread the word that she resurrected Jon Snow and put a huge target on her back? The show Melisandre is extremely mysterious, and there’s no way to know what she’s truly after or why she’s still around.
