Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall has gotten their hands on some fairly detailed casting call notes for the upcoming Season 7. Casting directors for Game of Thrones are on the hunt for a general, a priest, a warrior, a gate guard, city guard, merchant, lieutenant, young lord and “lovely lady.”
Since Season 7 of Game of Thrones has left the events of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series in the dust, it’s probably impossible to tie any of the sought-after cast roles to specific characters in the books. Nevertheless, one common factor among a number of the new characters reveals quite a bit about Game of Thrones Season 7. Many of the descriptions on the casting call request an “RP accent.” RP stands for Received Pronunciation, the name for the accent of English most common to Southern England.
An RP accent sounds posh, associated with prestigious social strata. It’s an accent that sounds rich and educated. In casting Game of Thrones, an RP accent is most commonly associated with characters and events in King’s Landing.
So we have a good sense of where a handful of these characters will conduct their business. The RP characters, likely to be new King’s Landing fixtures, include “a senior military officer,” “a venerable priest with moral authority and gravitas,” “a tall, handsome young lord” and a city guard “who intercepts a suspicious-looking person on his nightly patrol.”
Some of the other parts sound like compelling new characters as well. The warrior listed in the casting call is “a tough-looking bruiser with the attack skills of a pit bull.” This character will have lots of dialogue, with the casting call notes describing it as an “excellent part for a top-end actor.”
Season 7 will also see the introduction of a “confident, characterful, straight-talking Northern lad” who will serve as a gate guard somewhere in Jon Snow’s North.
And what season of Game of Thrones would be complete without the casting of a young, naked woman? Full nudity is required for the role, but the role is a “good speaking part” with some meaty lines.
Without a GRRM book to go off, there’s no telling for certain exactly what these new characters will get up to in Game of Thrones Season 7, but it’s probably a safe bet not all of them will survive to see Season 8.
