We haven't had a real, substantial GTA 5 update since the 'Lowriders Part 2' Benny's Original Motor Works' Sabre Turbo, Tornado and Minivan Customs. Of course, the Rockstar Newswire did drop hints regarding new 'Stunt Race' and 'Finance and Felony' content, but we've only received a period of radio silence since. So what's going on?
According to renowned GTA 5 tipsters Yan2295 and MrBossFTW, something fishy is going on. Firstly, Rockstar Newswire announced a new GTA Online Event week starting Friday, May 20. The event, known as Capture Week, features Double GTA$ and RP for all Capture Jobs on GTA Online online until Thursday, May 26. The event also included a bunch of random promotions including 50 percent off the Luxor Deluxe private jet, 50 percent off the Kuruma sports car, 50 percent off select engine and brake mods, 50 percent off Heist clothing and 50 percent off explosives. GTA Online Capture Week is also offering an exclusive in-game 'Meltdown' t-shirt simply for logging on during the event week.
Usually, no one complains about Double RP, Double Money GTA Online event weeks. However, this one has caused Yan2295 and MrBossFTW to feel suspicious.
Hm, so what does Yan2295 mean by an event week that was "made quickly just because they had nothing else for the week?" Typically, GTA Online event weeks usually have a theme that plays as a precursor to the DLC. However, the latest Capture week doesn't really have a theme that anchors to a Stunt update or a Finance and Felony update. In fact, MrBossFTW suggests that there doesn't have a general theme at all.
As a refresher, the GTA Newswire announced that a new finance and felony-themed update that will play as the "stealing and dealing successor" to Executives and Other Criminals. Players will form teams that will have bases at big new properties, including offices to serve as the organization's HQ as well as warehouses that will be used to store stolen merchandise, which include jewels, narcotics, medical supplies and whatever else that's worth stealing.
Rockstar will also bring "crazy vehicular action" in a future stunts update as well, which promises a "new realm of creative and fun games." Rockstar also hinted at new stunt-ready vehicles and gear, which are definitely exciting additions.
