Following its highly successful run on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, publisher Humble Bundle and developer Gears for Breakfast have finally announced the highly anticipated release of A Hat in Time for its last remaining platform: the Nintendo Switch. The 3D platformer will be heading to the portable console by mid-October, and will be available through the Nintendo eShop as a digital release or through retailers as a physical title. Along with the announcement, Gears for Breakfast released an exclusive trailer for the Switch, which you can see below.
The new trailer featured the high-flying acrobatics you’ve come to expect from A Hat in Time, as Hat Kid bursts through various levels showcasing her many powers and clashing with a ton of enemies along the way. The game remains to be one of the best 3D platformers released in recent years, and was a very pleasant surprise overall, especially after the disappointing release of Yooka-Laylee.
A Hat in Time sees you playing as a tiny space-travelling girl with a big top hat. Her spacefaring endeavors are temporarily halted when all of her fuel, called Time Pieces, become lost and scattered on a nearby planet. Now, Hat Kid must face off against the many dangers of this world by jumping, fighting and stitching new hats in order to restore her fuel and resume her journey.
The physical release of A Hat in Time on the Switch will include Seal the Deal, an expansive piece of downloadable content that is currently only available for the PC version. The digital release, however, will require it to be downloaded as a paid add-on, so there’s definitely more worth in buying a physical copy. Seal the Deal adds a whole new chapter to the base game, a challenge mode, some more bonus levels, cosmetics, and photo filters. In addition to this, the Switch version of A Hat in Time will include local full-screen cooperative play, the first time such a feature is available for a console.
Despite the good news of this release for people looking to own it on the Switch, it remains to be seen if Gears for Breakfast still has plans to bring Seal the Deal to both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
A Hat in Time will be released for the Switch on October 18. The game is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
