'Hearthstone: One Night In Karazhan' Gives Mage And Warlock More Early Game Threats

After months of silence, Blizzard is throwing a crazy party in Hearthstone’s newest adventure, One Night In Karazhan. This morning, we got a look at two brand-new cards from the set that tries to bring something new to Mage and Warlock.

Chinese site PCGames gave us Raving Grimoire , a one-mana 1/1 that’s Battlecry adds a random spell to your hand. Mage might have the best one-drops in the game and this happy tome might even be better than Mana Wyrm . Any card that gives your hand and board advantage, especially in the early game, isn’t bad. In Arena, this card will make Mage better since they struggle to have any board control at all.

Raving Grimoire isn’t perfect. It’s a waste late game and in most decks it might just be better to add a spell you actually want. Still, in Reno Jackson decks, this card is invaluable, even if you get a crappy spell it’s still a free card and a minion on the board. I love it because it looks like a monster in Toon World from Yu-gi-oh.

Malchezar's Imp

We don’t have the official English name for the card that Hearthstone JP revealed, but according to reddit, its name is Malchezaar’s Imp. It’s a one-mana 1/3 that says “whenever you discard a card, draw a card.” It’s the first Demon we’ve seen in awhile, with League of Explorers and Whispers Of The Old Gods containing none.

Warlock has a ton of cards that discard: Fist of Jaraxxus, Succubus and Doomguard just to name a few. Discard Warlock still most likely will not become a deck archetype. In a game like Hearthstone which relies heavily on luck, you can’t afford to discard a pivotal combo piece or important card. Blizzard would need to release a card that gained something extreme when discarded, like a minion that summons itself when discarded from the hand.
