Last weekend, the best Hearthstone players from around the world flew to California to compete in the most highly anticipated tournament of the year. The Hearthstone World Championship just finished knocking out half of it’s competitors, with only eight HS pros making it to the quarterfinals on Nov. 4. Blizzard is allowing players to choose who they think will be the winner of the tournament, and each time your chosen champion wins, you get a free card pack.
Keep in mind that if you have already voted for somebody, you can't do it again. If your guy is already knocked out, you can't pick a new champion.
For those new to the competitive Hearthstone scene, picking a player to take the whole thing is a daunting task. You could just pick one at random, but every Hearthstone player knows that luck can only get you so far. A Knife Juggler will ignore the one-health Ragnaros The Firelord and hit face instead of winning you the game.
If you are having trouble choosing a Hearthstone pro to back, allow me to give you some advice. I don’t have Far Sight so I won’t be able to give you any free packs if I’m wrong, but I think -- if RNG doesn't screw them over too hard -- that one of these guys could take the whole tournament. Here’s my prediction for the player who’s got the largest chance of winning the whole shebang.
Why HotMeowth Can Take The Whole Hearthstone World Championship
My first pick to take the Hearthstone World Championship is the rookie who’s been dominating the American scene this past year. HotMeowth took the NA Summer Championship title using weird decks like Discard Warlock before that was a thing, to take the whole tournament.
For the World Championship, HotMeowth is using only top tier decks, hopefully the Yogg will be with him. Midrange Shaman is a must, along with Malygos Druid and Secret Hunter. He did manage to sneak in one weird deck, C’thun Warrior, players by only three other pros. Unlike Control Warrior, which got a pretty big nerf when Execute had its mana cost increased, C’thun Warrior is still going strong. The decks rely heavily on drawing the right cards to buff C’thun when you need them, but once the Old God hits 10 attack, the game swings heavily in Warriors favor.
HotMeowth has hit Legend top 100 multiple times, even hitting rank one in August. He’s a good player but winning at Blizzcon won’t be easy. His first round opponent, DrHippi, is a Ukrainian superstar who only lost to Amnesiac in the top 16. With his European partner, Pavel, DrHippi has shown that Europe is a solid contender the Hearthstone World Championship.
Amnesiac is also a pretty good choice, but that might just be because I’m an NA fanboy.
