'Hi-Fi Rush' Dev Tango Gameworks Announces a New Start Following Acquisition by Krafton

Hi-Fi Rush dev Tango Gameworks announces its comeback following its acquisition by Krafton Inc. Steam, Tango Gameworks

Tango Gameworks Studio, the developer of the critically acclaimed rhythm-based game "Hi-Fi Rush," shared a post on social media about its miraculous comeback.

The post revealed that the company will now be called Tango Gameworks Inc. following its acquisition by "PUBG" creator Krafton Inc. The deal was confirmed in August 2024 following the former's closure by then-owner Microsoft.

Tango Gameworks is Back

Krafton Inc., which is also behind games like "InZOI" and "Dark and Darker," saved the studio from being permanently shut down. The Tango Gameworks Inc. team shared the miraculous comeback news on social media.

The studio said that it was changing its name and will now be under the Krafton banner moving forward. On top of acquiring the studio, the "PUBG" creator also secured the rights to the "Hi-Fi Rush" intellectual property.

At the time, Krafton said that the deal was a strategic agreement where it intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax Studios to ensure a smooth transition. It was so they could maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, according to Insider Gaming.

The video game publisher said that it also plans to support the Tango Gameworks team in continuing its commitment to innovation and delivering fresh and exciting experiences for gamers.

The social media post announcing its name change and revival was the first time that Tango Gameworks Inc. posted publicly following its shutdown in May 2024.

So far, it is not yet known what the studio will work on first, but many fans are hoping for "Ghostwire Tokyo" and "The Evil Within" to be on the waiting list.

A Potential Sequel to Hi-Fi Rush

The studio's rhythm-based game, "Hi-Fi Rush," became a viral hit that combined two very popular genres in the industry. It was also considered an innovative and wonderful title that had a low-skill floor but a high-skill ceiling, WCCFTech said.

This meant that the game could be enjoyed by both casual and hardcore gamers who usually play different games altogether.

Additionally, "Hi-Fi Rush" won several awards in 2023, which made it more confusing for fans why Microsoft decided to close down Tango Gameworks.

Many people are also hoping that a sequel to the rhythm-based game is something that Tango Gameworks Inc. was working on while it was still under Microsoft. This means that fans of the title can hope that the studio will work on it sooner rather than later.

A lot of fans were rightfully disappointed with Microsoft's decision, especially because it came shortly after "Hi-Fi Rush" was known to be a breakout hit.

People noted that the studio's operating costs at the time could not have been much higher than similar-sized developers, according to Vice.
