Hideo Kojima feels pressure to make his first post-Konami game a massive hit. The game developer sat down with Gamespot after his DICE 2016 panel to chat about his new studio, Kojima Productions, and the expectations that come with going solo. Kojima doesn’t feel failure is an option for him, because he doesn’t want to disappoint his loyal fans.

“I have to be honest, for this project I'm working on, there's are a lot of people, staff members, and fans who have high expectations,” Kojima told Gamespot. “I have the feeling that I can't fail. I can't disappoint. I can't go out there and do something too, too extreme, so there's a little bit of that which I have to deal with. Especially, because it's our first game and we're working with Sony, I want to make sure that it's a great game for Sony, so there is pressure in that. However, I'm not even thinking of letting any of that to change anything that's in the game.”

Kojima explained to Gamespot he wants to stay true to his past work and create a game with a “very strong, dramatic story” mixed with gameplay that “that gives a lot of freedom and interactivity.” He knows he has the support of Sony to create a big, edgy game with new elements, but isn’t yet sure if he can achieve his vision.

However, Kojima can definitely count on big names to help out. Director Guillermo Del Toro and Kojima shared the stage at the DICE panel . Del Toro has claimed to be done trying to make video games, but also says he will do “whatever the fuck” Kojima tells him to do.
