Tonight marks the end of DC TV premiere season. Legends of Tomorrow is the final show to air, following the debut of the new season of Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash. Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 episode 1, “Out of Time” will feature a familiar face right from the start: Green Arrow. Nate Heywood (soon to be Citizen Steel) finds Oliver in Star City because he knows someone has been messing with time. The changes are rippling across the Arrowverse and Nate thinks the Legends could be in trouble, possibly even dead.
After Nate, Oliver (and possibly some friends in the JSA) find the Legends and bring them to safety, there may be some other changes aboard the Waverider. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim revealed something will happen in the premiere that makes Rip Hunter no longer the Legends team captain. This is probably what’s best, especially if they are going to be linking up with the more experienced superhero group, JSA, this season. While he’s a really good man at heart, Rip can be selfish and tends to follow his personal agenda rather than doing what’s best for the team.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with Guggenheim, who explained the series premiere starts six months after the Oculus explosion and sees the Legends acting like time cops. “They’re going around history, fixing aberrations, dealing with time pirates, all sorts of fun things… Something happens in the premiere that changes the game for them, and we’re going to end up with a shift in leadership away from Rip into the hands of someone new.”
Last season saw White Canary stepping up to the plate in Rip’s absence, though she’s not always emotionally stable either. Not to mention she could be veering off on her own side missions to avenge her sister, Black Canary. Since Damien Darhk is teaming up with Captain Cold, Malcolm Merlyn and Reverse-Flash this season, we may see Sara going back to her old, brutal ways just like Green Arrow has done.
A fun twist would be putting a JSA member in charge, and there’s certainly a bunch of heroes to choose from: Hourman, Obsidian, Dr.Mid-Nite, Commander Steel and maybe even the original Flash, Jay Garrick. The latter of which would be an amazing way to spread the love across all four DC TV shows. It would also bring some flavor from the rest of the Arrowverse over to Legends, which felt like it was missing something in it’s premiere season.
“Fundamentally, we wanted to reinvent the show, and almost treat Season 2 like a new Season 1,” Guggenheim added.
JSA is certainly an amazing way to reinvent the series and sits especially well comic book fans. The first-ever comic superhero team on network television, who would have ever thought?
Legends of Tomorrow premieres on The CW at 8 p.m., here’s how to watch.
There is no way to watch the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premiere online without cable:
If you don’t have cable, there’s no way to (legally) watch Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 episode 1 live online. Your best bet is to download The CW App and watch on-demand tomorrow. The CW App is free and there’s no cable login necessary. Unfortunately, The CW App is the only way to watch next-day, since none of CW’s DC TV shows are expected to stream on Hulu anymore. If I were you, I’d bribe one of your friends for their cable login. It’s the only way!
