IO Interactive, developers of the Hitman franchise, just announced their new upcoming project. The Danish video game developers are making a new James Bond game. The game is currently named Project 007, however, that’s only the working title, so expect a name change as development progresses.
Project 007 will have an original story that has not been seen in any James Bond movies before. It will also act as an origin story (do I smell a franchise here??). The developers released a teaser trailer earlier today which you can watch below. Unfortunately, there is no gameplay footage, or much of anything, really.
While not confirmed, it seems like Project 007 is in early development. IO Interactive is already busy with their upcoming title, Hitman 3, which will launch worldwide on January 20. So it’s unlikely that IO has been able to work on both games simultaneously. The company also announced that they are hiring for their next game.
Both Hitman 3 and Project 007 will be self-published as IO Interactive parted way with Square Enix a while ago. Project 007 will use IO’s propriety Glacier technology. The developers also confirmed that 007 will launch on ‘modern systems and platforms’. We don’t know whether they are referring to current-gen consoles or only talking about the new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game will most definitely release on next gen consoles and PC, though.
“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, said in a press release. “Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
There is also more James Bond related content for fans to enjoy. The upcoming Bond movie, No Time To Die, will launch on April 2, 2021, assuming that there are no more delays.
