The Iron Fist reviews are terrible. So far, critics describe the Netflix series as stale, ferociously boring, unoriginal, and even compare it to “a slice of Velveeta cheese left out in the sun too long." Iron Fist has a 12 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Damn…
So will you give Iron Fist a chance in spite of the godawful reviews? Finn Jones is not only urging fans to hold back their opinions until they see the show, but says not be be phased by the harsh words.
“What I will say is these shows are not made for critics, they are first and foremost made for the fans,“ Jones tells the U.K.’s Metro. “I also think some of the reviews we saw were seeing the show through a very specific lens, and I think when the fans of the Marvel Netflix world and fans of the comic books view the show through the lens of just wanting to enjoy a superhero show, then they will really enjoy what they see.”
There’s a lot more riding on Iron Fist than Daredevil , Jessica Jones , and especially Luke Cage, a show that did everything right. Also, no Marvel-Netflix show has opened to such high stakes and controversy.

The casting of Jones as Iron Fist presented problems from the get-go. Long story short, there’s not a best way to adapt this problematic character. The internet erupted when Jones deleted his Twitter account after an intense exchange with fans and media about the show’s alleged appropriation of Asian culture. But now, days before the shows release, the actor has found his cool again. In addition to the critics just not getting the essence and vibe of the show, Jones blames the rest of the bad reception on Trump.
“I’m playing a white American billionaire superhero, at a time when the white American billionaire archetype is public enemy No. 1, especially in the U.S.,” he tells Radio Times. “We filmed the show way before Trump’s election, and I think it’s very interesting to see how that perception, now that Trump’s in power, how it makes it very difficult to root for someone coming from white privilege.”
Well, we’ll be watching even if it sucks. Jones’ character may end up being unlikeable and problematic, but there’s still a lot to look forward to by way of easter eggs and connections to the MCU. We’ve got Colleen Wing, Madame Gao, The Hand, Misty Knight, Claire Temple, Steel Serpent and loads of supporting characters and potentially awesome comic book moments to get excited about. It’s also worth nothing these reviews aren't based on the entire season. Netflix has a habit of slow-burning for eight or so episodes and saving the real jaw droppers for last few hours of binging.
Iron Fist arrives on Netflix March 17.
- Colleen Wing is a delight
- The last four episodes are significantly more entertaining
- Problematic character development
- Lackadaisical fight scenes
