Krafton, the creator of PUBG, has invested $11.3 million into funding Eschatology Entertainment so that it could work to develop a Souls-like shooter game.

The latest investment round was led by the South Korean game's publisher, which also recently made news after acquiring Tango Gameworks, the developer of Hi-Fi Rush. It was also joined by other investors, such as GEM Capital and The Games Fund.

The latter two also co-led a $4 million investment into Eschatology when it broke cover back in 2022.

Right now, Eschatology Entertainment is a 65-person studio that is operating remotely and its development team includes veterans who came from Valve, Wargaming, 4A Games, Blue Studio, and others.

The studio is pitching its debut project as a triple-AAA narrative first-person shooter that is set in an apocalyptic Wild West. The game currently has no official name yet but is said to be in active production with a finished vertical slice, according to GameDeveloper.

Eschatology Entertainment claims that the latest investment will ensure that the project has a "timely release" while also allowing it to establish a publishing team.

The co-founder of the studio, Fuad Kuliev, said that the deal represents more than a straightforward "financial investment."

He called it a "collaborative journey" that enables them to fully immerse themselves in creating a world that is rich in atmosphere, history, and touch challenges.

Kuliev also said that with the support of its new partner Krafton, as well as the ongoing collaboration with GEM Capital and The Games Fund, they now have all the resources they need to make their ambitions a reality.

A Collaborative Journey

Eschatology Entertainment was originally founded in 2022 by Dmytro Kostiukevych, Boris Nikolaev, Viktor Antonov, and Kuliev.

They all previously worked for Wargaming, which is the studio responsible for World of Tanks. The exception is Antonov, who was previously the visual director for Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, said Venturebeat.

Kuliev also said that the latest funding round is not only an opportunity to finish a unique, strong product. He added that it is also important for them to narrate the incredible story through different games, opening with an alternative apocalyptic Wild West setting.

On the other hand, Krafton VP and head of corporate development, Maria Park, said that Eschatology Entertainment has an "exciting future ahead of them."

She added that they are delighted to offer the developer the support it needs to innovate ideas, according to GamesIndustry.
