For the new League of Legends PROJECT skins, Riot has decided to add new Hextech Crafting Components. Project Cores and Blueprints will be available for RP, and will be obtainable in other ways (which we don’t know yet) that will be discovered when the PBE gets updated. The Cores and Blueprints combine with new Caches to unlock new goodies and loading screen borders for the three new PROJECT skins: Katarina, Ekko and Ashe.
Right now, it’s not entirely clear how any of this will work. Riot Wizardcrab on reddit, did say that you can unlock without RP:
Riot is also making Gemstones easier to obtain. Right now if you want Hextech Annie or Soulstealer Vayne, you have to cross your fingers and hope for a Gemstone to come out of a chest. I’ve opened dozens and only have two Gemstones. When the new Caches go live, you can buy a special bundle with guarantees you at least one Gemstone a day.
If the PROJECT minions can be unlocked from these Caches, I expect to spend too much money on them.
