League of Legends players have a lot to expect next year. That’s because for Preseason 2023, there are multiple changes arriving to some of the coordination-driven in-game systems. All of the planned changes will be tested on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) for six weeks before they make their way to the live server in Patch 12.22.

For those new to the game, the preseason signals the end of the Ranked season and marks a transition into the next season. This is also the period when the new meta forms.

Bring the Avatars

One of the changes coming is to the Jungle role. The reason for this is to make it more approachable to newcomers, and at the same time, less stressful to veterans.

Players can look forward to the introduction of Avatars: new companions that replace the usual starting Jungle items. These Avatars can be evolved by giving them treats, which are obtained by killing champions as monsters. Examples include:

  • Salamander: Defensive option, provides a shield and tenacity.
  • Fox: Mobility option, provides utility and movespeed.
  • Cat: Aggressive option, provides slows and extra damage.

Camp Range Indicators

To make the jungle more welcoming, especially to those unfamiliar with the role, there will be visual leashing indicators added. These show how far camps can be pulled before their patience starts diminishing. In addition, the distance that camps can be pulled will be decreased.

It’s Back!

The Chemtech Drake is returning with a new design and thematic. This newest iteration now grants a buff that gives tenacity and heal/shield strength when defeated. Now, when claiming a Chemtech Soul, players are granted bonus damage and damage reduction when below a certain threshold of health. It’s also worth noting that the Chemtech Rift now features the presence of Zaunite chemicals throughout the map, which can mutate the jungle plants in different ways:

  • Blast Cone plants now blast players twice as far.
  • Stim Fruit plants now produce Honey Fruits that no longer slow players when consumed.
    • They also grant a small bonus shield.
  • Stalker's Bloom plants now grant movespeed in the direction they reveal, including an extra range around the plant itself, and reduce revealed wards' health.
