'League of Legends' World Championship 2016: Riot Should Let MonteCristo Cast

Christopher “Montecristo” Mykles is one of the most polarizing figures in competitive esports. For the past few months, he’s been “fighting” with Riot, the company that makes League of Legends , about several things. First, his NA LCS team, Renegades, got banned for trading a player to TDK and now Monte can’t own a team for at least a year. Monte believes Riot has it “out for him,” as he said in his video discussing freelancer caster’s salaries.

Unlike a lot of members of the League community, Monte can speak his mind when it comes to how Riot acts since he works for OGN, the Korean company that covers League Champions Korea. Monte is a freelancer, unlike most of the casters that cover Riot events. These casters, like Jatt and Phreak, get paid a salary. In return, these salaried casters are employees who can’t make any outside revenue from streaming, creating YouTube videos or casting events that aren’t Riot sanctioned.

Still, the one thing Monte wants to do is cast the League of Legends World Championship. For reasons that haven’t been made publicly clear, Riot hasn’t invited Monte to cast this year. Either Riot doesn't want to seem like they condone Monte’s shit-talking , or they just don’t like him. Monte even wrote a song, spoofing the Little Mermaid’s ‘Part of Your World.’ Here it is, sung by T B Skyen:

Monte’s one of the best casters in the game, able to communicate what’s happening on the screen while dissecting it so you know why it happened. He’s engaging to watch, and one of the best casters working on League of Legends. LCK houses some of the best teams at the World Championship (SK Telecom, ROX Tigers) and it would be a shame not to have the most knowledgeable LCK caster (sorry PapaSmithy) dictating their plays.

So Riot, please, just let Montecristo cast Worlds. We won’t think of any less of you.
