Marvel’s next Netflix show, Luke Cage, premieres Sept. 30. A new scene released on the Netflix YouTube channel showcases Luke’s bulletproof defenses. He enters a boxing gym and calls out for a man named Domingo Colon. When they start to shoot at him, Luke says, “You haven’t heard?” Take a look:
Luke Cage Season 1 picks up a few months after Jessica Jones leaves off. However, recent comments from Charlie Cox confirm parts of Daredevil Season 2 happen at the same time as forthcoming events in Luke Cage . This means Claire (Rosario Dawson) may be extending her job search to Harlem after resigning from her night shift at Metro-General Hospital in Hell's Kitchen at the end of Daredevil Season 2. This also begs the question of whether Claire Temple will still be employed as ‘Night Nurse’ in the first episodes of Luke Cage.
Series creator Cheo Hodari Coker also revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that when Luke Cage begins, he’s hiding in plain sight still trying to decide if he’s worthy of being a hero.
“Luke Cage is a guy who doesn't want to solve problems with violence. He looks at his bulletproof skin, his impenetrable skin and his super strength allows him to have a voice, and not be afraid. There's a difference between using your powers to invoke something and manipulate a situation, versus giving yourself the space to speak,” star Mike Colter added.
Colter also gave fans an interesting another tidbit, revealing the exact moment within the series' 13 episodes where things start to heat up for Luke.
“Episode 4 is one of my favorite episodes because it answers so many question and gives you so much backstory,” Colter said.
Luke Cage finds another female ally in Misty Knight, seen in the set photo below. From the look on Misty and Luke’s faces, the two certainly share a deep connection. After his recent breakup with Jessica Jones, it’s unclear if Misty Knight or Claire Temple will take her place as his love interest.
Alfre Woodard stars as Mariah Dillard, a local politician in Harlem who wants to bring about change. She’s also the cousin of the villainous nightclub owner nicknamed Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali), who will prove to be a foil for Luke Cage along with Diamondback (Erik LaRay Harvey) and Shades (Theo Rossi). Both have ties to Luke’s mysterious past, and likely have something to do with why Luke was wrongfully convicted and sent to prison.
