Magic: The Gathering continues to make new sets, and that isn’t going to be changing anytime soon. In a large post on the Magic website, Wizards of the Coast announced what fans can expect to see released over the rest of the year. Along with that, Wizards has revealed a change in the way they will make Magic announcements moving forward.
The first thing to come out in stores announced today is a new Draft Pack for Conspiracy - Take The Crown. This Draft Pack will come with three booster packs from Conspiracy - Take The Crown. These new Draft Packs should be on store shelves by August 26, retailing for $11.99.
Next up is the reveal of the new Kaladesh set on Sept. 2. This reveal will be taking place at PAX Prime in Seattle. The Kaladesh set will be releasing to stores on Sept. 30. This set also brings with it the new Planeswalker Deck and Bundle model that Magic will be using moving forward. The new Bundle is replacing the old “Fat Pack” releases.
Along with the reveal on the 2nd, Duel Decks: Nissa vs. Ob Nixilis will also be releasing in stores on the same day.
Moving forward to November, the new Commander decks will be released on Nov. 11. These new decks introduce four-color legendary commanders, a change players have long demanded.
Also coming in November is the new Planechase Anthology. This release bundles all of the previously released Planechase products into one package, giving you every planar card ever printed. The Planechase Anthology will be releasing on Nov. 25.
The last thing announced today is the next set after Kaladesh . This new set will be called Aether Revolt, and should be getting released on Jan. 20, 2017.
Wizards of the Coast has also decided to change how the company will announce new products moving forward. There will now only be two major announcement days every year, one in the spring and one in the fall. These announcement days are when the new Magic blocks will be revealed, along with any supplemental products getting released alongside the blocks.
The reason for the change is that Wizards of the Coast wants its fans to know when to expect new Magic products to come to stores, and when to get hyped for new announcements. Smaller announcements may come outside of these two big ones, but those announcements will be for minor add-ons or smaller products.
