Mass Effect: Andromeda didn’t have as big a reveal as fans were hoping for, but more information continues to trickle in from BioWare and EA. As just revealed on an EA live stream, Mass Effect: Andromeda’s main character will be named Ryder and will default as a female.
BioWare also hinted at a Ryder family and more than one member of that family being in the game. Seeing as how Shepherd was a lone wolf, regardless of your initial selections, it could be cool to have a family member tag along for the ride.
The default player character will also be female. This is possibly due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from Jennifer Hale’s performance as FemShep.
As for other Mass Effect news, BioWare has re-confirmed they are in the last legs of development, and are anticipating a launch in the spring of 2017. If previous Mass Effect release dates are any clue, Andromeda will come out somewhere in February or March.
If you’re bummed there wasn’t much of a Mass Effect impact at EA Play, it’s probably because EA wants to make Mass Effect’s big reveal its own event. I wouldn’t be surprised if EA is holding off on major trailers until N7 Day, or Nov. 7. This way, Mass Effect will be able to have a good amount of marketing before an early 2017 release. EA Play was for Battlefield 1; Mass Effect: Andromeda’s day comes later.
